Dr Judy's full vaccine recommendations are in her book, From Needles to Natural, but here are some tips she follow when vaccinating a healthy animal.
The first vaccine tip, is to avoid over-vaccinating by using a titer test. This is a simple blood test that can tell you if your pet is still protected. Some of my clients had protective titers their entire lives after the initial series, so we know that these vaccines can last much longer than the frequency at which they are given by traditional veterinarians. Even if your veterinarian does not offer titer testing, you can use Hemopet.org.
The second vaccine tip is to give one at a time. Published data shows more adverse reactions when multiple vaccines are given. This includes combination vaccines, however, those are becoming so commonly used, it is hard to find single vaccines. If you must do a combination vaccine, at least do it by itself. I usually shoot for ~3 weeks apart.
Third, avoid combining vaccines and anesthesia. Anesthesia is already stressing the body and it adds another layer of potential complications if the animal has a hypersensitivity reaction to a vaccine at the same time.
Always give vaccines as low as possible on a hind leg. If a vaccine fibrosarcoma does develop, amputation of a limb can give your pet a much better prognosis. More common in cats, but I’ve seen them in dogs as well. You can respectfully request that your veterinarian administer the vaccine in this spot. Some veterinarians claim they don't commonly see vaccine fibrosarcomas. Unfortunately, this is another issue that is under-associated and under-reported. I saw many firsthand, and that is why I adopted this strategy.
Last, but certainly not least, I do recommend supporting your pet after an unavoidable vaccine. Vaccines are meant to stress the body, that is how they work, so I like to at least support the liver through their diet and you can even add in something like Rebalancer (formerly Anti-Vaccinosis).
Whole foods I like to add to any diet that support the liver:
You can even take it a step further and feed treats with benefits specific to supporting the liver and kidneys:
